Prepare for Your Sleep Study

Before you come in for your appointment, there are some things you should know.

What to Bring

  • Completed patient questionnaire packet.
  • Any medications that you are currently taking. (We don’t supply any medications.)
  • A small bag with personal items to prepare for sleep and get ready in the morning (toiletries, a book, a snack, change of clothes, etc). We will provide some personal toiletries and snacks for your convenience.
  • Something comfortable to sleep in (a nightgown, or sleeping shorts and t-shirt). You do not want anything that will make you hot and sweaty.

Sleep Study Guidelines

  • Don’t wear nail polish, or acrylic fingernails.
  • Shower and shave the day of your study.
  • Your hair will need to be free of excessive sprays, gels and creams.
  • Do not use lotions or creams on your body or face.
  • Do not forget reading glasses if you need them to complete paperwork.
  • Try to get a good night’s sleep the night before.
  • Do not nap the day of your sleep study.
  • Do not consume any caffeine after noon the day of your study.

What should I expect?

Once you arrive at Lexington Sleep Solutions, we’ll show you to your private bedroom. Each room is equipped to monitor and record your breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels and brain wave activity during sleep.

A camera is used to observe your sleep throughout the night and provide diagnostic information. An intercom will be on at all times so you can speak to the technologist in a monitoring room nearby.

The following morning the monitors will be removed, and you’ll start your daily routine. It will take several days to have the complete results of your study. A clinic appointment may be scheduled to review the results to determine what treatment is necessary

Sleep Disorders We Treat

What is it?

A common condition defined as a pause in breathing while sleeping that lasts ten seconds or longer and occurs occur 20 to 30 times in an hour. It can be life threatening.

What causes it?
