About Dr. Hulsemann
Dr. Hulsemann is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with additional certification through the National Institute for Program Director Development. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.Background
Dr. Hulsemann graduated from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy before attending Dalhousie University School of Medicine, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She joined the Royal Canadian Navy in her second year of medical school and, during her time in service, she completed a transitional year and internships in general surgery and internal medicine. She also achieved certification as a flight surgeon.
Dr. Hulsemann served with international forces within NATO in Bosnia and as a general medical officer for the National Defense Medical Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, before moving to the United States. She completed her residency at Mercy Health Partners in Toledo, Ohio, serving as chief resident, and then began her career in graduate medical education. She completed the National Institute for Program Director Development fellowship at the University of Michigan.
When Dr. Hulsemann joined Lexington Medical Center in October 2021, she brought more than 20 years of experience in graduate medical education with her. With the support of invested faculty and hospital leadership, she created its first accredited Graduate Medical Education program with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The Family Medicine Residency Program is the largest of all planned programs and matriculated its first residents on July 1, 2023.
