About Dr. Murphy

Dr. Murphy provides comprehensive orthopaedic services to patients of all ages in the Midlands.

Expertise

Dr. Murphy has served as a team physician for multiple teams, including the USC Gamecocks men’s basketball Final Four team, as well as Gamecock football, baseball, softball, women’s soccer, cheer, swimming, diving, golf and tennis. He has also cared for Columbia Fireflies athletes.

Before coming to Lexington Health, Dr. Murphy worked in Camden, South Carolina, and developed a sports medicine program for Kershaw County schools, giving student athletes access to top-level sports medicine and orthopaedic care in their community. He has expertise in caring for adult and pediatric patients using a variety of nonsurgical approaches and techniques, including ultrasound-guided injections and procedures, fracture care, bracing and orthotics, advanced diagnostic workups, rehabilitation and activity programs, and nonoperative medical management.

Background

Dr. Murphy graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University of College of Arts and Sciences in Columbus and earned his medical degree from OSU College of Medicine. He then completed his family medicine residency and primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
