About Dr. Bornemann
He has nearly 15 years of experience providing care to patients of all ages, including 10 years in graduate medical education.
Expertise
A diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Bornemann is certified in musculoskeletal sonography and vascular interpretation through the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement and has certifications in advanced cardiac life support, advanced life support for obstetrics, basic life support, neonatal resuscitation and pediatric advanced life support.
Dr. Bornemann most recently served as program director for the Prisma Health Family Medicine Residency program in Columbia, associate professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia and as its director of Primary Care Ultrasound.
Background
Dr. Bornemann graduated with high honors from Rutgers University Cook College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology. He then graduated fifth in his class at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Piscataway, New Jersey, and completed the National Capital Consortium Army Family Practice Residency at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center in Washington, DC.
He also completed a National Institute of Program Director Development fellowship through the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors in Leawood, Kansas.
Leadership
Dr. Bornemann is founding chair of the American Academy of Family Physicians Point-of-Care Interest Group and is a past member of the Board of Governors for the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
He has reviewed, edited, authored and co-authored more than 35 publications, articles and grants, spoken at or facilitated nearly 40 presentations and been a peer reviewer for the Journal of Family Practice and Annals of Family Medicine.
He also volunteers with Good Samaritan Clinic in Columbia to provide no-cost health care to underserved communities.
