Types of GERD Procedures

We have many treatment options for GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). GERD occurs when the stomach contents leak backward into the esophagus causing irritation, heartburn and other symptoms. After an evaluation, a surgeon will consult with you on which treatment option may be best.

Reflux Treatment Program

We specialize in offering a full treatment program for reflux. Our patient education videos outline what to expect from the program and how to recover after your procedure.

Nissen Fundoplication

This is the most common procedure to treating GERD, especially if patients do not respond well to lifestyle changes or medications or do not wish to continually require medications to control their symptoms. Surgery is very effective in treating GERD. This procedure creates a "one-way valve" to prevent acid reflux.

LINX Procedure

This procedure prevents acid reflux by placing a small band of flexible magnets (about the size of a quarter) around the weak esophageal sphincter. The magnets open and close when a patient swallows to allow good and liquid into the stomach. Patients generally return home within one day.

TIF Procedure

This procedure treats GERD at its source. The incisionless approach rebuilds an antireflux valve to restore the body’s natural protection against acid reflux. There are no scars, minimizing complications and possibly leading to a quicker recovery.

High-Risk Breast Cancer Clinic

The Lexington Health high-risk breast clinic provides specialized support for women facing an elevated chance of developing breast cancer.

This program includes an in-depth risk assessment for women who score high on questionnaires given prior to mammograms. These surveys ask about various topics, including family history, genetics and reproductive factors.

Colo-Rectal Treatments

We treat conditions, such as:

  • Diverticulitis — Small pouches in the wall of the large intestine become inflamed or infected.
  • Colitis/Ulcerative Colitis — An inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Irritable Bowel Conditions
  • Fistulas, Fissures and Hemorrhoids

Sigmoid Colectomy Procedure

This is a procedure where we remove the last section of the colon, due to disease or damage. Our patient education videos outline what to expect before, during and after your procedure.
