About Dr. Sarkar

Dr. Sarkar is board certified in both complex general surgical oncology and general surgery.

Expertise

Dr. Sarkar is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and American College of Surgeons. She has participated in more than 20 presentations, seminars, and panels, in addition to having coauthored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, commentaries and book chapters. She is experienced in laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques and recently served as a surgical oncologist at Novant Health Medical Group in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Background

Dr. Sarkar graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of California in Riverside and earned her medical degree from UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles. She then completed her general surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, while serving in the United States Army Medical Corps. Following residency, Dr. Sarkar spent five more years in the Army as a general surgeon, serving one tour in Iraq. After leaving military service, she went on to complete a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York.
